D. Linking Several PSUs

 

You can expand printer sharing beyond eight ports by daisy chaining PSUs together. The figure below shows a configuration that allows up to 20 PCs to share two printers. Follow these steps to set up this configuration:

1                     Use a PSU-82SP for the Master and give it the most memory (2MB recommended).

2                     Make sure the timeouts on all units are the same.

3                     Change the SETUP switches (Printer Output mode) on all units to Direct mode.

4                     Refer to Figure D.1, and connect the parallel and serial cables.

Note:

Command codes sent through the Slave are not passed on to the Master. Therefore, when configuring the Master, you must connect one PC directly to it. Once the Master is configured, the PC can be removed.

1                     Master PSU-82SP: Use the LASERSET program to assign all parallel inputs to go to the parallel output and all serial inputs to go the serial output. PCs connected directly to the Master can still select either output port via command codes.

2                     Slave PSUs: Use LASERSET to assign the connected PC to send print jobs to the serial or parallel output (whichever is most frequently used).

3                     Send a print job through the Slave PSU. Use command codes if you wish to change output ports.

 

Print jobs sent to the Slave's parallel output go to the Master's parallel input and out to the connected parallel printer. Print jobs sent to the Slave's serial output go to the Master's serial input and out to the connected serial printer.
